Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is a separate educational service I offer for those interested in developing mind-body connections. MBSR is an educational program offered apart from my psychology practice and is not meant to substitute for personal or professional psychological advice
“What is mindfulness?”
Mindfulness
is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening
in your life so that you can experience greater vitality and
well-being in the present moment. Pain, whether physical or
emotional, tends to force
our attention to contract. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction offers techniques that can help a person
expand their awareness, discover choices where none were seen
before, and take charge of their lives. It is a way of doing
something for oneself that no one else can do for you. It
teaches techniques for systematically working with stress
resulting from pain and illness, as well as the challenges
and demands of everyday life.
For clients who have an interest in Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction, I offer seminars teaching skills designed to empower individuals and help them become more aware. This most often results in increased energy and greater peace of mind. The skills, which require practice and disciplined commitment, include: sitting meditation, body awareness and deep relaxation, mindful stretching, mental imagery exercises, mindful communication and skillful stress management exercises.

Mindlessness
Most of us have experienced many moments of “mindlessness” - a loss of awareness which results in forgetfulness, separation from self, and a sense of living like a machine. Thoreau actually defined true wealth as “having the ability to fully experience life."
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is intended to ignite the capacity to restore
within oneself a sense of wholeness, health and well being
by increasing awareness of all aspects of self, including
body, mind and heart. All people have this capacity buried
within them. It is a deep internal resource available to each
individual.
"To
live is so startling, it leaves little room for other
occupations...."
